Re: Books and Ideas #26: Interview with authors of "Grave Expectations"
I must start with the fact that the funeral home that our family has used for many years has been a great help. I was in the Army overseas when my dad died and they were there for my mother every step of the way and helped her in many ways that had nothing to do with their profit. When my mom passed away they helped me the same way. Both times treating us the same as families that could afford much more. With organ "donations" I have mixed feelings. I know people die while waiting for an organ and have seen the pain involved for the family afterwards but to have body parts removed without consent of the person that has died kind of reminds me of the movie "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson. I hope to be long gone before we get to that point. I'm not sure i can even comment on having ashes in a bowl with a scoop and plastic bags! Maybe I am just a little too old fashioned but I can not even conceive of going to a service with that feature. I even had trouble with my sister wanting her ashes spread in Saginaw Bay but at least it was done by her husband and son. After saying all that I have to admit I did enjoy the interviews and always like hearing various points of view on any subject. _________________ Trust but Verify |
